The Federal Courthouse is located on the former site of the famous San Carlos Hotel. The hotel was built in 1901, condemned and destroyed in 1993. In 1910, the cost to build the San Carlos was $500,000. The 1993 demolition costs were over $1 million. The new courthouse was completed in 1998.
