Buck Showalter was a professional baseball player and manager. This was his family home when his family moved to Century in the late 1950's.
The style of the home is called an I-House. The term was coined in the 1960's by folk geographers who had undertaken to survey vernacular building in several midwestern states, all of which began iwth the letter "I". The geographers found this to be a common house type, two stories tall and one room deep. It is common throughout the county and was popular from Colonial times through the early-twentieth century. This house has been embellished with Victorian elements.
