The Mennonite farms in north Escambia County are neat and well-kept with homes reflecting their Kansas heritage. Most of the homes are ranch style and show no influence of Florida Cracker architecture. The ranch style originated in California in the 1930's. It is one of the most common American house styles and reached the height of popularity during the optimistic Eisenhower presidency.
