Pensacola, FL
Santa Rosa Island, home of Pensacola Beach, is a barrier island in The Gulf Islands National Seashore. 52 miles of unsullied, undeveloped beaches and the emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico beckon with recreational opportunities from fishing, boating, birding, swimming, hiking, collecting seashells, attending a ranger guided program and exploring the historic forts. Since the barrier island is narrow, recent hurricanes have eroded the roadways. Earl Bowden Way, which runs through the Santa Rosa area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, was washed away by Hurricane Ivan in 2004, rebuilt, and washed away again by Hurricane Dennis in 2005. It was reopened in 2009. [Click here for more info](http://www.nps.gov/guis/)
