The historic district of Milton has been preserved by keeping intact the two-lane bridge over the Blackwater River as part of the general context of the old town. The river is the ultimate source of the town's past wealth and the emphasis on the surrounding blocks represents the value of the local economy using local assets and resources.

Milton is located on the Blackwater River. This two-lane bridge forms the entrance to the town.

The buildng on the left at the foot of the bridge was known as the Fisher-Hamilton Hardware. It is one of the oldest structures in the downtown area, probably dating from after the 1892 fire.
