Peanuts are one of the biggest cash crops in Santa Rosa County. Peanuts are legumes with a very unique growth cycle. The plants grow best in loose, well-drained soils. Some species do better under irrigation but others manage quite well in fairly dry climates. The peanut is unusual because it flowers above the ground, but fruits below the ground.
