Pensacola: Historic Pensacola Village: Tivioli HouseBetween 1805 and 1840, Pensacola's social life centered around Tivioli High House and an octagonal ballroom, then known as the Tivoli Dance Hall. In 1840 Francisco Moreno converted the old Tivoli House into a boarding house. During the Civil War, Union troops who were quartered in the house, called it the "Spanish Barracks", because of its owner's nationality. The original Tivoli High House was demolished in 1937. It was reconstructed in 1976 from photographs and archaeological evidence. The first floor of the Tivoli House serves as the Historic Pensacola Village gift shop and ticket office. The building is administered by the West Florida Preservation Board.
