Pensacola: Historic Pensacola Village: L N Terminal

The Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company Marine Terminal was located at the Commendencia Street Wharf. The L & N built the terminal in 1892 to provide a link between the railroad and shipping interests. In the late 19th century, thousands of ships, ready to load long leaf yellow pine boards, filled the harbor. The L & N also transported fish, particularly red snapper, in refrigerated railroad cars. Lumber, fishing and the port contributed to the boomtown atmosphere in Pensacola. The terminal reflects the architecture of the period. The building was moved to Main Street across from the Historic Pensacola Village and serves as a leased space for office and shop space.
