Pensacola Beach: Sugar Bowl LakeLarge sand dunes are topped with a smattering of sea oats. The lake habitat has an important diversity of grasses such as widgeon grass that occurs in shallower waters. It is most common in bays and estauries and is eqaully at home in fresh and brackish waters. Widgeon grass meadows are one of the state's most ecologically valuable submersed aquatic plant communities, providing both food and ground cover for a variety of wildlife. (Source: Nelson, Gil. The small lake is located on Sugar Bowl Lane and Via de Luna Drive on Santa Rosa Island. The area is known for its large dunes which shelter homes built on the soundside of the dune formations. taken by Denise Daughtry
