Bagdad: Popcorn Road

Most small towns in northwest Florida started out as a lumber towns. Joseph Forsyth and the Simpson brothers moved the sawmill from Arcadia to the mouth of Pond Creek in 1840, calling the new town Bagdad. Bagdad was the second largest town in Santa Rosa County until the mill closed in 1939. Moss covered oaks form the dominant canopy throughout the village.
